The city of Riec-sur-Bélon

His origins

Besides vestiges of the Neolithic and the Iron Age, the territory of Riec preserves many traces of the Roman era. The discovery of an important villa at Porte-Neuve in the 19th century confirms the Gallo-Roman presence.

An old parish, its territory extended over Le Trévoux and undoubtedly over part of Bannalec; From the 13th to the 18th century, the Guer de Pontcallec family dominated local life with their authority. During the revolution, and this for a year, the south-eastern part of Trévoux is attached to Riec. But the left bank at Pont-Aven is lost in favor of this new town. At the beginning of the 19th century, the habitat extended over the slopes of the southwest, Pen-Men and Pen-Moor. At the end of the 19th century, the village of Riec took its final configuration and in 1898 became Riec-sur-Bélon in order to avoid any confusion with Briec (Briec de l'Odet, in the department of Finistère).
